Excel for Evaluation: Organize, Analyze, & Visualize Your Data

Ever feel like you’re swimming upstream in data? Want to visualize your data, but not sure where to start? Do you have a gut feeling that you’re not getting the most out of Microsoft Excel? The Indiana Evaluation Association is offering a Special Workshop just for you. Join Ann K. Emery and the Indiana Evaluation Association on Friday, October 24 from 10:00 am – 1:00 pm at the Lumina Foundation in downtown Indianapolis for a hands-on workshop, Excel for Evaluation: Organize, Analyze, and Visualize Your Data, to build your data management and analysis skills.

In the first hour of the workshop, we’ll cover beginner, intermediate, and advanced spreadsheet skills and then move on to data visualization during the second half. Data visualization requires two skill sets: critical thinking skills to match your visualization to your audience’s information needs and numeracy level and technical skills to create visualizations in a software program like Excel. You’ll get a behind-the-scenes look into the design process, plus time to actively create and share your own charts.

By the end of this hands-on workshop, you’ll be armed and ready to:

• Merge data from multiple sheets and files into a single master spreadsheet;
• Organize your spreadsheets by adding filters and freezing panes;
• Clean and recode messy data to get it ready for analysis;
• Run basic descriptive statistics and frequencies;
• Explore your data more fully through pivot tables; and
• Visualize your data through effective and easy-to-ready charts.

We’ll be working through real data sets together. Bring your laptops, power cords, and enthusiasm.
