Research Specialist, The Ohio State University, College of Public Health

Summary of Duties: The Research Specialist works collaboratively with other researchers to conduct a variety of health care services research, public health studies, health care program evaluations, and other research projects under the general supervision of the Center Director. Activities may include data collection and analysis, literature reviews, facilitating communication among researchers, 
preparing reports and presentations, and policy analysis. The Research Specialist will work as part of a project team both at Ohio State and, potentially, at off-campus research sites. This individual may participate in
research design and project planning activities, help prepares reports for particular projects, and serve as a co-author on Center publications. The Research Specialist may direct certain portions of research projects, under the supervision of the Center Director or a Project’s principal investigator. The Research Specialist will likely spend a good proportion of time assisting in
evaluation activities for OSU’s Center for Clinical and Translational Science. Other duties may include writing and sending communications regarding project status and project needs to participating researchers, and performing other duties as requested by the Center Director. Additionally, the Research Specialist will perform other administrative and technical support activities for the Center, as requested by the Center Director. These activities may include business development interactions with prospective clients, collaboration with the College of Public Health Communication Office on development or revision of marketing materials (web and print) for the Center, identification of grant opportunities and assistance in development of grant proposals, providing a liaison with the CPH grants office, Office of Sponsored Programs,
and IRB, and occasional administrative support activities.

Required Qualifications:
Master’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience; excellent oral and written communications skills; able to perform quantitative
and statistical analysis of data using statistical software and be familiar with qualitative research approaches; must possess good organizational and planning skills; use of Power Point, Excel, and MS Word; ability to perform data analyses using standard statistical software (SAS, STATA, or SPSS); knowledge of bibliographic search and retrieval techniques, both internet and non-internet based.


Desired Qualifications:
Ph.D. degree or an equivalent Clinical degree in Health Care, Health Services Research, Public Health, or other relevant discipline or an equivalent combination of education and experience; practical experience performing health care research projects, particularly regarding the organization and delivery of health care services or public health program evaluation;
knowledge about the basic characteristics of clinical and translational science; practical experience in health care or public health program evaluation, clinical and translational science, and/or health services research.
