POSITION DESCRIPTION

The Evaluation Center seeks a qualified evaluation specialist to serve in a full-time appointment as Assistant Director. The Assistant Director serves as policy advisor to the Director and staff, ensures high quality standards for Center products, helps manage the Center’s financial and support operations, organizes and conducts special research and evaluation projects, and designs and conducts educational activities in evaluation. The Assistant Director is expected to contribute to the Center’s mission of advancing the theory and practice of evaluation through research, development, dissemination, service, education, and leadership.

Major responsibilities:

·        Develops, recommends, and implements policy and procedure 

·        Assists and advises the Director with planning and implementation of decisions

·        Directs staff to meet deadlines, accomplish goals, and produce high quality products

·        Supervises subordinate staff

·        Obtains external funding

·        Organizes and conducts evaluation and research projects

·        Coordinates and contributes to in-service education in evaluation and programs for visiting scholars and students

·        May support the Center’s doctoral program in evaluation by adjunct teaching and serving on program and dissertation committees

CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS

The Assistant Director should have these qualifications:

·        An earned doctorate from an accredited institution, preferably in evaluation or closely related field

·        State-of-the-art knowledge of the theory and practice of evaluation

·        Ability to administer evaluation research 

·        Ability to attract funding from sources outside the university

·        Ability to plan and implement research and evaluation projects

·        Staff supervision experience and skills

·        Ability to design and conduct educational activities in evaluation

·        Ability to contribute to the peer-reviewed literature in evaluation


SALARY AND CONDITIONS

Salary is expected to be commensurate with qualifications and experience and includes an attractive fringe benefits package including TIAA/CREF retirement contributions.  This is a senior executive officer position; in accord with university policy, there is no provision for tenure. Position is open until filled.

THE EVALUATION CENTER

The Evaluation Center is a university-level research and education center devoted to advancing the theory and practice of evaluation. The Center reports to the Vice President for Research and currently has approx. $5,000,000 of external grant/contract commitments involving numerous collaborating organizations locally and nationally.  The Center administers an Interdisciplinary Doctoral Program in Evaluation with 35+ students currently enrolled.

The Center’s activities include (1) research to study current evaluation practices and to formulate and test theoretical propositions about evaluation; (2) development to produce new methodologies, data-gathering instruments, reporting formats, and evaluation procedures; (3) dissemination to inform interested persons about relevant evaluation issues and the Center's contributions; (4) service to help selected clients--including school districts, nonprofit agencies, government agencies, foundations, and colleges--evaluate their programs; (5) education  to provide doctoral-level evaluation training and in-service programs; and (6) leadership to help develop evaluation as a field of professional practice.
