Announcement of Two Faculty Positions in Nonprofit Management & Community Practice

Mandel School of Applied Social Sciences

Case Western Reserve University (Cleveland, Ohio)

The Jack, Joseph and Morton Mandel School of Applied Social Sciences (MSASS), the graduate school of social work at Case Western Reserve University, invites applications for two (2) new faculty positions; one open rank on the tenure track, and one at the rank of Assistant Professor on the non-tenure track. We are seeking candidates who can enhance the School’s mission of advancing leadership in both nonprofit management and social work community practice. Those with academic experience in culturally diverse populations are encouraged to apply. The desired areas of expertise are in nonprofit management and community practice. At the Mandel School, community practice is defined broadly as macro practice with a focus on promoting social change through work with organizations, communities and systems. We understand community to be important as context, as a resource, as a target of change, and as unit of action.

Ranked #1 in Ohio and #9 nationally among schools of social work, the Mandel School integrates its education, research and service to enable our students to become leaders in social change, social welfare and human services. Position #1: Tenure Track, Open Rank

Applicants are sought for a tenure-track position of open rank. Appointment at the level of Associate Professor will require evidence towards a national reputation for research expertise, a distinguished record of publication, and a record of funded research. Appointment at the level of Professor will additionally require an established and significant national reputation for research excellence.

We encourage those who meet the following criteria to apply for the tenure track position:

Minimum qualifications

·        An earned doctorate in nonprofit study, policy studies, law, social welfare, or other relevant social science field by the time of appointment

·        Demonstrated ability to develop and to conduct a program of research and scholarship that will enhance the missions of the School and the University, including the potential to attract funding for research.

·        5-7 years of postgraduate experience in work related to the nonprofit sector or community practice

Preferred qualifications

·        An earned master’s degree in social work from a CSWE accredited social work program

·        Demonstrated ability and interest in teaching master’s students and/or doctoral students in several areas of nonprofit study, policy studies, or social welfare practice

·        Expertise in qualitative, quantitative, and mixed methods

Persons interested in the tenure track position should submit the following materials to mandelsearch@case.edu: (1) a letter of interest, (2) curriculum vitae, (3) a recently published article, preferably as the lead author, (4) a two-page research statement, (5) a two-page teaching philosophy statement, and (6) three letters of reference.

Position #2: Non-Tenure Track – Assistant Professor

Applicants are sought for a non-tenure track position at the Assistant Professor rank. We encourage those who meet the following criteria to apply for the non-tenure track position:

·        An earned doctorate in nonprofit study, policy studies, law, social welfare, or other relevant social science field by the time of appointment

·        An earned master’s degree in social work from a CSWE accredited social work program is preferred

·        3-5 post-master’s experience in work related to the nonprofit sector or community practice

·        Demonstrated ability and interest in teaching master’s students in several areas of nonprofit study and/or community practice

·        Demonstrated ability and interest in teaching in a variety of formats, both traditional and online
