Job Description: 

Miami University, Oxford, Ohio: Teacher Education/Ohio’s Evaluation & Assessment Center for Mathematics and Science Education:  Senior Researcher and Statistician to work in Oxford, Ohio, who conducts advanced parametric and non-parametric statistical analyses, (e.g., univariate and multivariate statistical analyses, Item Response Theory modeling-Rasch Mode, structural equation modeling, hierarchical linear modeling, survey sampling, and experimental design); develops and maintains multiple, large data bases; oversees data collection and processing; assists in the development of research/evaluation designs and proposals; creates and maintains online survey instruments using Checkbox, Qualtrics, or similar platforms; executes all phases of data analysis plans and makes recommendations for improvement; summarizes analysis results in written format (e.g., technical and annual reports and conference presentations) for varied audiences, including lay and educated professionals; contributes to scholarly papers, presentations, and other professional documents; applies knowledge of the research literature in science, mathematics, technology, and engineering education to the interpretation of analysis results; maintains regular communication with clients and supports completion of projects in a timely manner and within budget; represents the E & A Center with clients and advisory groups on the state and national levels; and supervises graduate research assistants.

 

Job Requirements:

Require:  Graduate degrees in Statistics and/or Educational Psychology, science, or mathematics or related field; experience with standard quantitative and qualitative research methods; two or more years of experience, gained concurrently or at any time: in the use and application of statistical computer software packages which must have involved the use of SAS and/or SPSS; at least one year of experience with routine performance of  t-test, ANOVA, regression, factor analysis, GLM, Chi-square, survey sampling, and research/experimental design; conducting Item Response Theory (Rasch Model) analyses; at least one year of experience managing large data sets using data management systems and spreadsheets (i.e., ACCESS, FileMaker, Excel); competent with Microsoft Office Suite; Experience writing technical and annual reports, and other professional documents; experience explaining complex statistical issues to colleagues and clients using non-technical language when appropriate; ability to work collaboratively on an evaluation/research team as well as independently; and ability to handle multiple tasks and complicated detail work accurately and efficiently in the face of changing priorities and tight timelines.

Desire: Ph.D. in statistics, educational psychology, educational leadership, or related field; experience with complex statistical modeling, i.e., HLM and/or SEM; experience with Winsteps or other software for Rasch Modeling or Item Response Theory modeling; experience independently producing professional writings, including evaluation reports and grant proposals; experience working with US school data and large databases; experience working in a research group, focused on evaluation of K‑20+ teaching practices and student learning; flexibility for travel to meet with clients, advisory groups, and to present at national conferences.
