The organization unites 17-24 year olds of all backgrounds for a year of full-time service, giving them the skills and opportunities to change the world. City Year’s diverse young leaders make a difference in the lives of children by working to close the achievement gap and turn around low performing schools in 23 U.S. locations and in London and South Africa. This year, more than 2,000 City Year corps members are serving on diverse teams in schools and communities. Position Overview

City Year Cleveland seeks a highly skilled, well-organized Program Manager (PM) to lead a team of up to 10 corps members in service to Cleveland public schools. The
PM will report to the Program Director. This individual is responsible for the implementation of the day-to-day team based operations of select senior corps members and corps members. The PM is charged with ensuring the full fidelity of the service model in their school and in ensuring their corps members meet their impact goals with their students. Also the PM assists in the execution of the site’s overall program and service goals, Impact Operating Goals and High Priority Goals.

  • Analyzing data to identify trends, cause-effect relationships and opportunities for improvement.
  • Setting direction and effectively aligning resources to execute on priorities.
  • Providing inspirational leadership that mobilizes diverse groups toward achieving ambitious goals.
  • Coaches and motivates individuals to achieve their maximum potential.
  • Ability to have frank/difficult conversations with corps members around issues such as poor performance, interpersonal and inter-team conflict, race and diversity.
  • City Year staff members are expected to think outside of their own job description at all times to help further the National Service Movement.
  • Building successful partnerships to achieve mutually beneficial outcomes.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in education or related field, and/or extensive City Year experience.
  • Demonstrated mentorship and management experience required.
  • Experience and knowledge with relationship management.
  • Demonstrated experience in non-profit, social service or educational settings.
  • Solid experience/passion for working with 17-24 year olds.
  • Strong time management skills necessary.
  • Strong organizational skills necessary.
  • City Year/AmeriCorps/Peace Corps experience a plus.
  • Understanding of the National Service Movement necessary.

Skills, Abilities and Relevant Previous Experience

  • Ability to work in a fast paced and diverse environment.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, analytic and problem solving skills.
  • Negotiation and third party mediation skills.
  • Experience working in a schools setting as a teacher or other capacity that provided exposure to and knowledge of students and school operations.
  • Experience as an effective City Year team leader
  • Experience coaching young people
  • Demonstration of flexibility
