Position Announcement

The Children’s Learning Research Collaborative (CLRC) in the College of Education and Human Ecology at The Ohio State University seeks two (2) full time postdoctoral fellows to participate in its new Institute of Education Sciences postdoctoral training program, funded by the U.S. Department of Education. Two appointments will begin in Summer 2013, with additional appointments in Summer 2014. These are two-year positions and offer collaborative and independent research opportunities. Fellows will receive rigorous, interdisciplinary postdoctoral training on designing and testing language and literacy practices for improving young children’s educational outcomes, closely aligned to two IES topic areas (Reading and Writing, Early Learning Programs and Policies), and learn the academic, research/technical, and practical skills necessary for scholarly success.  Specific research projects will be based upon the joint interests of the fellow and the CLRC faculty mentor(s).

The CLRC is a research laboratory dedicated to conducting high-quality empirical research on child development and early education, with a focus on research questions for which answers will make direct and immediate contributions to educational and clinical practices for children and their families.  The CLRC brings together a multi-disciplinary research team, including individuals with expertise in speech-language pathology, psychology, reading, special education, elementary education, curriculum and intervention design, and statistics/quantitative methods. The team includes Dr. Laura Justice, Dr. Shayne Piasta, and Dr. Ann A. O’Connell, who will serve as primary mentors for postdoctoral fellows. Applicants are encouraged to view information concerning CLRC investigators, projects, training, and  requirements on the CLRC website (clrc.ehe.osu.edu) and to speak with CLRC investigators to learn more about this opportunity.  Inquiries may be sent to the CLRC postdoctoral training coordinator, Allison Alexander, at clrcpostdocinfo@osu.edu.

The appointments will begin in July-August, 2013. Applicants must possess their doctoral degree before that date. All qualified U.S. citizens and permanent residents with degrees in relevant disciplines  (e.g., education, psychology, speech-hearing/communication, quantitative research methods) will be considered. Salary is set by IES at $52,500 annually plus benefits.

Additionally, each fellow will receive an annual research and travel allowance of $7,000.

To Apply: Applications for postdoctoral positions to begin in Summer 2013 are due by  February 1, 2013; a second round of applications may be accepted in the spring, and additional positions will be advertised in Fall 2014.  Applicants should send the following materials to the CLRC postdoctoral training coordinator at clrcpostdocapply@osu.edu:(1) letter of interest detailing the applicant’s PhD graduation date, research interest and areas of competence (substantive expertise, methodological/statistical skills), long- and short-term career goals including areas to improve during tenure as a CLRC postdoctoral training fellow, and how interests, competencies, and needs align with the CLRC’s research and training programs; (2) curriculum vitae; (3) names and contact information for three references; (4) two research publications or scholarly writing samples; and (5) completed application (available from http://clrc.ehe.osu.edu/postdoctoral-program/).   The Ohio State University is an EEO/AA employer. To build a diverse workforce Ohio State encourages applications from individuals with disabilities, minorities, veterans, and women.
