About the Research Project
How can the Ohio Arts Council (OAC) better support students and young people with Autism Spectrum
Disorder? This question drives the research initiative and partnership between OAC and VSA Ohio, the state
organization on arts and disability. Three primary sources of data will be collected and analyzed to begin
answering this question. A thorough review of the literature related to arts and autism will assess the field
and identify best practices/model programs. A survey will be developed and disseminated broadly across
Ohio; findings will be incorporated in the report. Finally, three roundtables will bring together a diverse group
of constituents and experts for in-depth discussion. These sessions will be audio recorded, transcribed, and
analyzed. Results will be compiled into findings and recommendations made to the Ohio Arts Council and
larger community.

The Research Assistant will contribute to all aspects of the Research Initiative. Expected break down of time
is 40% literature review, 20% final report analysis, 15% transcription of approximately 9 hours of audio
recordings, 10% on-site, and 15% meetings/administration. All work will be conducted in consultation with
Executive Director of VSA Ohio. Documentation will require knowledge and reporting in MS Word/Excel. The

July 12, 2013. All documentation will be the property of VSA Ohio.
