Training and Evaluation Manager

Job description

Position Overview

Reporting to the Director of Program and Service, the Training and Evaluation Manager (TEM) is responsible for the development and implementation of the site's trainings for 50+ corps members and the site's data evaluation efforts. The TEM will develop trainings specific to their community and will be able to create tracks for corps members with varied qualifications. The TEM will work closely with the Program and Service department to coach corps members and ensure they are providing high quality service. Additionally, he/she will be responsible for creating processes to capture and analyze data for internal and external audiences.

Key Responsibilities

Corps Member Development

  • Plan and execute all training events such as Basic Training Academy, Advanced Training Academy, and on-going trainings for all corps members.
  • Work with Program and Service team to develop a comprehensive learning and development program for corps members that takes into account varied trainings for high school and college graduates.
  • Provide targeted trainings to support corps members in their implementation of Tier 1 supports and Tier 2 interventions.
  • Work with City Year staff and corps members to identify training needs for corps members and assess needs on an on-going basis.
  • Coordinate senior corps member leadership development training and mid-year reflection retreat.
  • Serve as site point for the Leadership After City (LACY) program and as liaison for site alumni board.

Coaching and Observation

  • Oversee the execution of the Leadership Development Program for corps members and coach them through their development.
  • As part of the program and service team, conduct regular formalized observations and provide constructive feedback for growth.
  • Serve as site point and ensure the successful implementation of the Idealist Journey, a civic reflection program.

Analyzing and Evaluating Data

  • Lead the site's evaluation efforts, overseeing all evaluation tools and resources.
  • Ensure all deadlines for data collection and analysis are met.
  • Facilitate the data collection process at the individual schools and with CMSD.
  • Coordinate the collection and analysis of all data required by stakeholders such as City Year, AmeriCorps, CMSD, United Way of Greater Cleveland and other funders.
  • Distribute and collect start of year, mid-year, and end of year surveys to corps members, teachers, principals and school liaisons.
  • Analyze student-level data and various survey data to assess impact of specific programming.
  • Manage and monitor cyschoolhouse (City Year's internal online database), including data entry, as well as train and support staff and corps members on its use.
  • Create a culture of data driven decision making that helps improve real-time service delivery and identify best practices.
  • Serve as site evaluation point to our national Program and Service Team and participate in regular national conference calls with other site representatives.

Program and Service Operations

  • Serve as site point for corps member events including but not limited to Red Jacket Ceremony, Opening Day and Graduation.
  • Assist with all corps member operational aspects of the Program and Service department.
  • Oversee the uniform distribution process for the site.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree, preferably in education or related field, and/or extensive City Year experience.
  • 2+ years of experience in training staff or young adults in the education, non-profit or corporate sector and/or program evaluation a plus.
  • Experience coaching young people and working with diverse populations.
  • Experience working as a teacher or otherwise in a school setting a plus.
  • Experience designing interactive trainings with practical learning outcomes for adult learners.
  • Strong computer skills particularly excel and databases and ability to perform basic data analysis.
  • Excellent written and oral skills, partnership-building, and event planning skills.
  • City Year/AmeriCorps/Peace Corps experience a plus.
  • Proven management capabilities, ability to work on a team, and attention to detail.
  • High degree of initiative; high energy, positive, "can-do" team player.

Skills, Abilities and Relevant Previous Experience

  • Ability to work in a fast paced and diverse environment.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, analytic and problem solving skills.
  • Experience working in a schools setting as a teacher or other capacity that provided exposure to and knowledge of students and school operations.
  • Experience as an effective City Year team leader
  • Experience coaching young people
  • Demonstration of flexibility
