Interviewer - Independent Contractor Assignment

Summary of assignment: Trained interviewers will coordinate and complete face-to-face interviews with disabled and elderly individuals. Interviews will take place at the respondent's preferred location, usually in their home.

Assignment Start Date: May 2014 (last week of May)
Assignment End Date: July 2014 (through the end of the month, if needed.)

Interviewers are required to:
  • Attend training.
  • Schedule and conduct 8 to 10 face-to-face, structured interviews each week.
  • Download and print call sheets for up to 200 participants (one page each) from our secure website to track phone call outcomes (made interview appointment, left voicemail, hang-up, wrong phone number, etc.)
  • Call potential respondents and guardians to schedule interviews at the location of the respondent's choice.
  • Update respondent information on a daily basis in teh VR system (e.g., completed interview, interview scheduled, refusal, wrong phone number, etc.).
  • Manage interview schedule.
  • Administer 45-60 minute long structured interviews using a handheld device (tablet provided by Vital Research).
  • Transmit your completed interviews and other updates each day using a wifi connection (sync).
Requirements
  1. Must feel comfortable interacting with disabled individuals, including minors, older adults, and those with mental illness or other cognitive impairments.
  2. Concern and sensitivity to issues of illness, disability and communication challenges are required.
  3. Must conduct interviews at the location of the interviewee's choice, including in respondents' homes, in an atmosphere of privacy.
  4. Must be able to maintain confidentiality and adhere to VR and HIPAA compliance requirements.
  5. Must be able to read and speak English.
  6. Must be organized.
  7. Must have a personal computer, printer, and access to reliable wireless Internet.
  8. Must adhere to computer security requirements, such as installing anti[virus software and running scheduled security checks.
  9. Must be comfortable communicating via email as well as by phone.
  10. Business casual dress is required (no blue jeans, shorts, open-toed shoes, or t-shirts.)
  11. Own transportation is required, along with valid car insurance.
  12. Must pass criminal background check.
  13. Must pass training requirements.
Interviewer Compensation
  
As an independent contractor, interviewers are required to sign a contract with Vital Research, including a business associates' agreement, which extends the right to access Protected Health Information through your relationship with Vital Research, as well as your obligation to protect this information.

You will be required to invoice Vital Research in order to receive payment.
  1. $250 reimbursement to attend the 2-day training during the last week of May. Interviewers who live over an hour away from training will receive an additional $200 stipend toward the cost of lodging and meals for two nights.
  2. You will not be paid an hourly rate. You will be paid $70-$90 per completed interview, depending on the interview distance from your home. All work hours (including scheduling of appointments), travel time, mileage, and supplies are included in the per interview reimbursement rate.
